Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Transplant OR RN with strong kidney and liver transplant experience for a fast-paced abdominal transplant surgery unit in Indiana.

Active IN RN license, BLS, and 2+ years transplant experience are required, with Cerner charting and Da Vinci Xi familiarity preferred. The role includes 3x12 hour day shifts, call, and travel accommodations with housing assistance.

Qualifications

  • Active IN or compact RN license required in hand prior to start date.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Minimum 2 years of strong transplant experience required, including kidney and liver experience.
  • Regulatory Charting for Transplants certification required.
  • Cerner charting experience preferred.
  • Experience with general surgery procedures such as appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, and hernia repair.
  • Familiarity with robotic surgery systems including Da Vinci Xi preferred.
  • Skills in cystoscopy and nephrectomy procedures.
  • Knowledge of emergency management, fire safety, and latex allergy protocols.
  • Nursing degree must be from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation.
  • 2 supervisor references required.
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Operating Room unit performing solely abdominal transplants including kidney, pancreas, liver, and intestinal/multi-visceral procedures.
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12 hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
  • Weekends preferred.
  • Call requirement of 40-60 hours per 6-week period.
  • Required to float within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals across multiple specialties and all surgery types.
  • Uses Cerner charting system.
  • Provide surgical nursing care for abdominal transplant procedures including organ donation and pediatric transplant support (pediatric transplants performed at a separate facility).
  • Adhere to Universal Protocol time-out procedures, specimen handling, and radiation/laser safety practices.
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays.
  • Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved, additional time off requires facility approval.
  • First-time travelers accepted if they have strong 2 years of transplant experience.
  • Indiana residents are not accepted for this position effective March 1, 2026.
  • Previous IU Health perm or PRN employees must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler.
  • Current or past IU Health travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment must complete a consecutive break to reset eligibility, 90 days for out-of-state residents and 180 days for in-state residents.
