Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN with a Level III NICU background for a day shift assignment in California. Responsibilities include direct neonatal care, collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary team, and strict adherence to EPIC EMR documentation.

The role requires CA RN licensure, BLS/NRP, and a minimum of two years NICU experience. The position offers a 3x12-hour daytime schedule, no on-call, and potential housing benefits for traveling candidates.

Qualifications

  • Active CA RN license required.
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required.
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU experience required.
  • Experience with IV therapy, blood products, and starting/maintaining IVs.
  • Experience with emergency medications, antibiotics/antivirals, and anti-seizure medications.
  • Competency in APGAR scoring, developmental care, patient/family teaching, and thermoregulation.
  • Experience with neonatal sepsis management and infectious disease precautions.
  • Experience with feeding management including bottle, breast, and gavage feedings.
  • Blood glucose monitoring and phototherapy experience required.
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred; charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Preferred skills include arterial line management, central line care, UAC/UVC management, conscious sedation, IV vasopressors, and high-risk delivery attendance.
  • Preferred respiratory skills include bubble CPAP, high frequency ventilation, chest tube management, nitric oxide administration, oscillators, and ventilator management.
  • Preferred NEC/hypothermia experience; lumbar puncture assistance.
  • 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year.

Responsibilities

  • Level III NICU setting caring for neonates from <24 weeks to >34 weeks gestation.
  • Patient ratio of 1:3.
  • Day shift 7:00 AM–7:30 PM, 3x12-hour shifts.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • No on-call requirements.
  • Epic EMR experience required.
  • Provide comprehensive, individualized patient care including assessment, care planning, and coordination with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Serve as liaison between nursing and medical staff to facilitate collaborative patient care.
  • Exercise clinical judgment and critical thinking across routine and complex neonatal cases.
  • Document and communicate patient assessments, care plans, and outcomes with the healthcare team.
  • Must reside within a 50-mile radius to be eligible for local candidate rate.
  • Former employees must have a 1-year separation period before returning as a traveler.
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract.
  • Only one holiday may be requested off per contract, with holiday coverage for major holidays.
  • Re-orientation only required for travelers separated 6+ months since last shift at this facility.
