Job summary

American Traveler is actively hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Tele - Neuro/Stroke unit in New Jersey. The role requires an active NJ or Compact RN license and at least 2 years of RN experience, with ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Epic EMR experience is essential.

The position includes a 3x12 hour night shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) in a busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit focusing on CVA, TBI, neurosurgery, spinal injuries, and related conditions. Comprehensive benefits and housing allowances are offered.

Qualifications

• Active NJ or Compact RN license required.
• ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years RN experience.
• IV therapy with port access, blood products, central lines, PICC/peripheral lines.
• Insulin protocols, non-titrated cardiac drips, PCA.
• GI/GU/Renal care incl. bariatric, ostomy, feeding tubes, dialysis management.
• Cardiac/respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG, tracheostomy care.
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and telemetry monitoring.
• Isolation precautions/PPE, rapid response, wound care, surgical drains.
• Flu vaccine required (medical or religious exemptions accepted).

Responsibilities

• Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit with Neuro/Stroke focus (4 East).
• Night shift schedule, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3x12 hours).
• Patient population includes CVA, TBI, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal injury, substance withdrawal, mood disorders.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6.
• Epic EMR experience required.
• Floating to other MS/Tele units as needed from home unit.
• Weekend coverage every other Sat/Sun and holiday coverage every other holiday.
• Provide direct patient care on a busy Med/Surg Tele unit with Neuro/Stroke focus.
• Collaborate with rapid response and code teams as needed.
• Scrubs of any color permitted.
• First-time travelers welcome; local candidates accepted.
• RTO requests must be submitted at time of application and are subject to unit approval.
• Limited winter RTO available Dec 15 - Jan 5, up to two consecutive days.
• Facility may cancel up to one shift per two weeks based on scheduling needs.
• Work within a 284-bed community teaching hospital setting.

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy including port access, blood products, central-line draws, PICC/peripheral-line care, phlebotomy, and IV starts
• Experience with insulin protocols, non-titrated cardiac drips, and PCA
• Proficient in GI/GU/Renal care including bariatric surgery, ostomy care, feeding tubes, CBI, and dialysis management
• Skilled in cardiac/respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and telemetry monitoring
• Competent in isolation precautions/PPE, rapid response, wound care/wound VAC, and surgical drains
• Flu vaccine required with medical or religious exemptions accepted (mask required if exempt)
