Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in Charlotte, NC. Requires 18 months of Med/Tele experience and NC or Compact RN licensure.

The assignment includes night shifts (1900-0700), 36 hours per week, floating across units, and a diverse patient population. Epic EMR is used; transportation and housing arrangements may be provided. Nurses must live 50+ miles away and be prepared for regional travel.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 18 months Med/Tele RN experience required.
• Additional Ortho experience and spinal precautions knowledge required for Ortho Surgical unit assignment.
• General Med/Tele skillset required including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management.
• Experience with medication drip management including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF.
• Epic EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

• Hospital setting in Charlotte, NC with 207 licensed beds, Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations.
• No trauma designation and not a teaching hospital.
• Will be assigned to a home unit on first day of orientation, which may include ADTU, Ortho Surgical, Medical Telemetry, Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac Medical Telemetry, or Medical units.
• Patient populations vary by unit and include CHF, COPD, stroke, cardiac arrhythmias, ESRD, GI issues, post-surgical care, and behavioral health/detox cases.
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6, with critical surge up to 1:7-8.
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700) for 36 hours per week.
• Every other weekend rotation required.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Floating required within region and scope of practice to Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, LCH).

• IV pumps: Alaris; Medication dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Phillips
• Support staff includes CNA, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurse (as staffing allows), 24/7 respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage, and intensivist coverage.
• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
• Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks
• Navy scrub color required
• Free parking available
• Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify; local candidates are not accepted
• First-time travelers not preferred but will be consideredPrevious permanent employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year before applying
• Manager conducts final clinical interview
