American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
• Skilled in stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management)
• Experience with PCA pumps and medication drip management (cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF)
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Last 4 of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum of one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Responsibilities

• Emergency Observation Unit within a 457-bed Trauma Level III teaching hospital
• 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and angina
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
• 12-hour day shift schedule (0700-1900) on a 6-week cycle
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• EMR: Epic
• IV Pumps: Alaris
• Medication dispensing via Omnicell
• Floating required within Region 1 facilities (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division) based on staffing needs, within scope of practice
• Provide direct patient care within a Med/Surg-Tele unit supported by a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, and Hospitalist coverage
• Resource RN assists with admissions and discharges; IV/VAT team supports phlebotomy needs
• Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
• Travelers are first to float to other nursing units, demonstrating clinical flexibility and adaptability across scope of practice
• If floating mid-shift, travel time between facilities is compensated
• Navy scrub color required
• Free employee parking deck available
• Team environment includes unit book club and other social activities
• First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
