American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Ortho/Tele Med-Surg unit in Massachusetts, requiring 1-2 years of experience and an active MA RN license. This role includes evening shifts, 5x8 hours, with every-other-weekend coverage, a census of about 40, telemetry monitoring, and Cerner documentation.

Qualifications

• Active Massachusetts RN license in hand.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation experience.
• IV therapy and line care skills.
• Insulin drip management experience.
• Orthopedic surgical patient care experience.
• Wound care and PPE precautions.

Responsibilities

• Admit adult and geriatric patients 18+ on ortho/tele med-surg unit.
• Focus on orthopedics, general surgeries, and med-surg with insulin drips.
• Manage average daily census of 40 across 26 rooms and 40 beds.
• Evening shift 5x8 hours 15:00–23:00.
• Weekend coverage every other weekend; float as needed.
• Utilize Omnicell; document in Cerner.
• Provide post-surgical and insulin drip management.
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and respond to dysrhythmias.
• Orientation includes 36 hours total (12 computer, 24 1:1).
• Scrubs of any color permitted.
• First-time travelers with 2–3 years experience and Epic or Cerner background considered.
• Returning staff must wait one year before returning as traveler.

• Experience with telemetry monitoring, cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation, and management
• Skills in IV therapy, central/peripheral line care, and blood product administration
• Experience with insulin drip titration and IV insulin protocols
• Experience with total joint replacement and orthopedic surgical patients
• Experience with wound care and isolation precautions/PPE

Responsibilities

• Work on an ortho/tele med-surg unit admitting adult and geriatric patients 18+
• Focus on orthopedics, general surgeries, and floor-level med-surg patients including insulin drips
• Average daily census of 40 with 26 rooms and 40 beds
• Evening shift schedule, 5x8 hours from 15:00 to 23:00
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend
• Float required
• Uses Omnicell medication system
• Documentation completed in Cerner
• Provide care for ortho/tele med-surg patients including post-surgical and insulin drip management
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and respond to dysrhythmias using rapid response/code teams as needed
• Orientation includes 36 hours total, with 12 hours computer training and 24 hours 1:1 with a preceptor
• Scrubs of any color are permitted
• First-time travelers will be considered if they have 2-3 years of experience and either Epic or Cerner background
• Returning staff must wait one year before being eligible to return as a traveler
