Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Orthopedic RN for an inpatient orthopedic unit. Requires active IL RN license, BLS, and at least one year of relevant nursing experience. ASN is required, BSN preferred; Level 1 Trauma center and Epic charting experience are essential.

Shift is 7:00AM-7:30PM, 3 days weekly, 36 hours. Travel assignment with 6 weekends every 6 weeks, rotating holidays, and floating to similar units. Housing allowance and travel reimbursement are provided.

Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license in good standing (temporary license accepted)
• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• Minimum one year of relevant nursing experience required
• ASN required; BSN preferred
• Level 1 Trauma center experience required
• Epic charting experience required

Responsibilities

• Inpatient Orthopedic and Medical/Surgical unit setting
• Cares for ortho and med/surg patients requiring traction, wound care, and mobility support
• Uses Epic for charting
• Day shift schedule: 7:00AM-7:30PM, 3 days per week, 36 hours weekly
• Requires 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
• Rotating holiday coverage required
• Floating required to similar units
• Assess ortho and med/surg patients each shift and develop individualized care plans
• Educate patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transition needs
• Coordinate with physicians and surgeons regarding patient care
• Delegate and monitor interventions performed by HCT staff
• Set up and manage ortho traction, surgical traction devices, wound vacs, drains, pouches, and urological devices
• Maintain accurate documentation and uphold patient and employee safety standards
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
• RTO not to exceed 7 total days per 13-week contract
• Previous Carle Health contingent workers must complete a 6-month break in service if prior assignment exceeded 1 year
