Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for an Oncology Chemo Certified unit in Maryland. Active Maryland or Compact RN license, plus 2 years of relevant nursing experience, BLS and NIHSS are required at submission. Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) is also required.

The role features a 3x12 night shift (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) with holidays, weekends, and floating to Med/Surg/Tele as needed. Comprehensive oncology care and patient education are essential.

Qualifications

  • Active Maryland RN license or Compact RN license required.
  • Minimum 2 years of current, relevant nursing experience.
  • Chemo (ONS/ONCC) certification required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • NIHSS certification required.
  • Meditech charting experience preferred.
  • Community hospital experience preferred.
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
  • Experience with IV therapy/infusions, port access, central lines and PICC care, IV starts.
  • Experience managing oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression.
  • Chemotherapy administration, continuous infusion, oral administration, and body fluid handling post-chemo.
  • Symptom management including nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, skin/mucous membrane alterations.
  • Administer antibiotics, antiemetics, and corticosteroids.
  • Care for brain, breast, lung, multiple myeloma, and pancreatic cancers.
  • Skills in isolation precautions/PPE, neutropenic precautions, phlebotomy, wound care, and tracheostomy care.
  • Post-surgical care experience.
  • Proof of residency matching licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Inpatient oncology unit with 12 beds specializing in Oncology, Thoracic and Bariatric surgery.
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:30 AM).
  • Rotating holidays and weekends required.
  • Block scheduling not available.
  • No on-call requirements.
  • Floating required to Med/Surg/Tele units as needed.
  • Patient ratio of 1:5.
  • Utilizes Meditech charting system.
  • Performs chemotherapy administration and chest tube care and management.
  • Provide comprehensive oncology nursing care including chemotherapy administration and management of oncologic emergencies.
  • Support patients undergoing thoracic and bariatric surgery in addition to oncology care.
  • Deliver psychosocial care including patient/family education, advanced directives, and hospice care support.
  • Manage pain through IV push narcotic administration, PCA pump management, and transdermal patch application.
  • Must work two of the three winter holidays.
  • Facility is a smoke-free environment.
  • First-time travelers will be considered based on experience.
  • No radius rule for this facility, with the same rate applying to local travelers.
  • RTO must be submitted with application and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Non-billable online training modules required prior to start, averaging 4-5 hours and completed no later than one week before start.
