Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Chemo-certified RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position at a Magnet-designated teaching hospital in Connecticut. The role requires 3+ years of oncology experience, Epic proficiency, and CT license with BLS and ONS/ONCC chemo certs.

Day shift 3x12s (0700-1930), every other weekend, travel-experienced candidates preferred. AFK parking, vaccines, and a robust benefits package accompany this assignment.

Qualifications

• Active CT RN license (or Compact) required
• BLS certification required
• Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required
• OCN certification preferred
• Minimum 3 years of oncology/chemo nursing experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Trauma Level I hospital experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, and LTAC experience preferred
• 1 professional reference required
• Skilled in IV therapy, port access/management, central line care, and chemotherapy administration
• Experienced in recognizing and managing oncologic emergencies (e.g., anaphylaxis, sepsis, tumor lysis syndrome)
• Knowledge of psychosocial care, symptom management, and pain management for oncology patients

Responsibilities

• Inpatient oncology/chemo unit within a 186-bed Magnet-designated teaching hospital
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (0700-1930)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required as needed
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Uses Epic charting system
• Provide direct patient care for a wide range of oncology diagnoses including breast, lung, colorectal, and blood cancers
• Administer chemotherapy via multiple routes and manage associated side effects and complications
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team for care coordination and patient/family education
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Free parking available in any unrestricted space
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
• COVID vaccine and booster required, with medical/religious exemptions only
• Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be considered (local candidates not accepted)
• Returning staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to be eligible as a traveler
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved
• First-time travelers not considered due to travel experience requirement
