Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital in Seattle. Prior travel experience and strong telemetry/ortho-neuro skills are required.

The role involves 3x12 night shifts (19:00–07:30), 1:4–5 patient ratios, and floating to MS/Tele, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, and Endocrine/Metabolic units. Epic charting is used; certifications include ACLS, BLS, NIHSS.

Qualifications

• Active WA or compact RN license required, pending license accepted
• Minimum 2 years MS/Tele or stepdown in Level I/II trauma facility
• Minimum 1 prior travel contract; no first-time travelers accepted
• ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications required
• Must pass telemetry proficiency exam at orientation
• BSN preferred
• Trauma Level II experience required; Level I preferred
• Proficient in dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with peripheral nerve catheters on high-volume ortho floors
• Strong neuro/psychiatric care, CVA, and pre/post neurosurgery skills
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, post angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cath/surgery
• Insulin drip titration required
• Epic charting experience preferred

Responsibilities

• MS/Tele Float pool role covering all acute care and telemetry units, including Behavioral Health and Respite
• Patient ratios 1:4-5
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 1900-0730
• Every other weekend required, with flexibility requested
• No on-call requirements
• Floats within scope to meet facility needs, including split shifts across two units within a 12-hour shift
• No block scheduling accommodations
• Uses Epic for charting
• Provide nursing care across MS/Tele, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, and Endocrine/Metabolic populations
• Strong ortho and neuro clinical skills required due to high patient volume
• Requires strong time management to manage split-unit shift assignments
• Facility manager prefers to avoid placing travel pairs together
• COVID vaccination and booster required with no exceptions
• Scrub requirement: any solid color scrubs
• RTO must be kept to a minimum and cannot be requested during orientation
• No RTO during Christmas
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays, with 1 major holiday off allowed
• Local candidates accepted at same pay rate with no radius restriction
• Prior UW/Harborview staff must have 18-month separation before returning as travelers
