Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg Float role requiring prior charge nurse experience and WA or compact RN licensure. Epic charting experience is required, with BLS certification and telemetry skills beneficial.

The position involves night shifts (3x12) and cross-unit float coverage across Med/Surg, Telemetry, and ER-boarded patients. US nursing experience is mandatory; travel between facilities may be required.

Qualifications

• Active WA or compact RN license in hand at submission.
• Minimum 2 years RN experience, plus 2 years charge nurse experience.
• BLS required; ACLS/NIHSS preferred.
• Epic charting experience required; telemetry skills desirable.

Responsibilities

• Float across Med/Surg, Telemetry, and ED-boarded patients.
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios from 1:4 to 1:6.
• Night shift 3x12 hours, 19:00–07:30.
• Chart in Epic; may assume charge nurse duties on small units.
• Support staffing, bed flow, and cross-facility coordination.
• Travel between facilities; may work with sister sites.
• Commit to 3 major holidays; submit RT0 requests upfront.
• Radius 50 miles for travel pay eligibility; return rules apply.

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Float position requiring prior charge nurse experience and WA or compact RN licensure.

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required, must be in hand at submission
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Minimum 2 years of charge nurse experience required
• BLS certification required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management experience
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and nasal cannula respiratory care
• Must have nursing experience within the US; Canadian experience alone does not qualify
• 2 supervisory references covering 1 year of experience within the last 3 years

Responsibilities

• Float role covering Med/Surg, Telemetry, and ER-boarded patients throughout the hospital
• Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on unit acuity
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30
• Charts in Epic
• May include charge nurse responsibilities on select small units, overseeing staffing, bed flow, and coordination
• Floating required between facility units and possibly sister facilities
• Serves as a float RN supporting multiple units based on institutional need
• On small units, the RN may function as the sole Charge Nurse supported by LPNs and CNAs
• Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront during the application process
• Local candidates accepted at the standard bill rate
• Radius requirement of 50 miles for travel pay eligibility
• Former permanent staff may return as travelers after a 3-month waiting period, provided they reside outside a 50-mile radius
• Facility does not accept candidates with Nursys or background check hits
• First-time travelers are not required to have prior travel experience
