Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool assignment in California, requiring CA licensure, telemetry expertise, and ventilator experience. The role targets on-unit and remote telemetry care across adolescent to geriatric patients, with general med-surg and orthopedic cases.

The position is night shift (7:00 PM–7:30 AM), with 36-bed census and 1:4 patient ratio. First-time travelers are welcome, and local candidates may be considered at the travel rate.

Qualifications

Active California RN license required.
Minimum 3 years of RN experience required.
Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience required.
Total joint orthopedic experience required.
Ventilator experience required.
Epic experience required.
Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips.
BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
Experience with on-unit and remote telemetry monitoring.
Experience with Rapid Response Team utilization.
Experience with post cardiac angiogram, post MI, and pre/post cardiac cath and surgery care.
IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including central line, PICC line, and blood product administration.
Experience managing Heparin protocols and non-titrated cardiac/vasoactive drips.
Respiratory skills including chest tube management, CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, and tracheostomy care.
References required for consideration.

Responsibilities

MS/Tele Float unit within a hospital setting.
Patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics.
General medical-surgical patients with moderate volume orthopedic surgical cases, including total joint procedures.
Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:30 AM).
Average census of 36 with 36 rooms/beds.
1:4 patient ratio.
Every other weekend coverage required.
No on-call requirement.
May float within the facility.
Allscripts charting system experience preferred.
Provide telemetry and medical-surgical nursing care with a focus on orthopedic and general surgical patients.
Perform cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and emergency response duties as needed.
Manage respiratory care including airway management and tracheostomy care.
Required to wear royal blue scrubs.
Smoke and nicotine-free facility; candidates must arrive free of tobacco odor.
Advanced EKG exam required prior to start, including a 20-question onsite assessment with rhythm strip interpretation.
Required training modules must be completed prior to start.
First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
Local candidates accepted at the travel rate.
Return staff considered on a case-by-case basis.
Requested time off must be submitted with the initial application and cannot be added later, with no time off permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment.
