Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in New Jersey. Requires active NJ or compact RN license, BLS, and 1 year Med/Surg experience with cardiac monitoring and respiratory support.

Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius; travel-friendly unit accepting first-time travelers. Night hours are 19:00–07:30, 3x12, with every-other weekend; onboarding occurs quickly with orientation modules and labs completed within 48 hours.

Qualifications

• Active NJ license or Compact RN in hand at time of consideration.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 1 year Med/Surg nursing experience.
• Experience with cardiac monitoring and emergency response protocols.
• IV therapy and peripheral line care required.
• Respiratory care skills including oxygen administration.
• PPE use and isolation precautions experience.
• Epic charting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• General medical/surgical unit care for stroke/TIA, UTI, sepsis, pneumonia, and isolation patients.
• Patients include those with weakness or unsteady gait from community, assisted living, and nursing facilities.
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30) on a 36-hour week.
• Every other weekend required.
• Unit accepts first-time travelers.
• Provide direct medical/surgical nursing care including cardiac monitoring and respiratory support.
• Navy scrub top and bottom required.
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius; local candidates not accepted.
• Previous staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler.
• No travel pairs or groups accepted.
• No more than 3 days of RTO auto-approved; no RTO during first week of orientation.
• Core onboarding items and labs completed within 48 hours of contract signing.
• Modules completed onsite during orientation, 4-6 hours for RNs.

Requirements

• Active NJ or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and rapid response/code team protocols
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care/management skills required
• Respiratory care skills including nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and oxygen administration
• Experience with isolation precautions and PPE use
• Any charting system experience required; Epic experience preferred
