Job summary

American Traveler Staffing Professionals is seeking a Travel RN for Med/Surg assignments in a 13-week acute care contract. The role requires 1 year Med/Surg experience and EPIC documentation proficiency.

Shift is days, 3x12hrs with 36 hours per week, start Sep 29, 2026. RN license (NE or Compact) and BLS required. Lodging and per diem vary by facility; weekend/holiday coverage may be required.

Qualifications

• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• Minimum 1 year Med/Surg nursing experience.
• EPIC charting experience required.
• Must be able to take 1:6 patient ratio.
• Bedside shift report experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide Med/Surg care to assigned patients.
• Titrate drips and administer set-rate infusions.
• Document patient care in EPIC EMR.
• Collaborate with CNAs and support staff to ensure quality care.
• Assure coverage for weekends and holidays as needed.

Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 1 year of Med/Surg experience and EPIC documentation proficiency.

Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 days and nights, must be able to take 6 patients
• High turnover unit with frequent discharges and admissions
• Patient population includes older teens and adults with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory viruses
• Surgical patient population includes ortho (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology
• RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, and administer set rate drips such as Bumex and Lasix
• Cardiac tech available 24/7; RNs not required to read own telemetry strips
• 24/7 nursing supervisor coverage with two charge nurses on day shift and one on night shift, none of whom typically take patients
• Nurse aides available at 1:8-1:10 ratio to assist with accuchecks and vital signs
• Respiratory therapy support available 24/7 for equipment including trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow
• EPIC EMR used for documentation
• Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
• Standby/call requirement for low census situations
• May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments
• No self-scheduling for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling may be accommodated

Requirements

• Active RN license (NE or Compact) required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Must be able to take 1:6 patient ratio
• Bedside shift report experience required
• Experience with the specific shift (days vs nights) being applied for is preferred

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include bedside shift report, proactive patient rounding, and answering call lights
• Strong teamwork expected, including collaboration with CNAs
• Unit/department specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility
• Cancellation policy allows up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
