Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with Minnesota RN license for a rotating day/night acute care position in a 25-bed unit. You will manage orthopedic post-op cases, general post-op, GYN, pneumonia, CHF, COPD, and geriatric patients with multiple comorbidities.

You will work with EPIC EMR and Mindray telemetry, titrate drips, and support discharges with a focus on patient safety. MN license, BLS/ACLS/PALS required, and travel experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Active Minnesota RN license required.
• BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required (AHA).
• Minimum 1 year RN experience; travel experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work in a 25-bed acute Med/Surg unit.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 days, 1:5 nights.
• Care for orthopedic post‑op, GYN, pneumonia, CHF, COPD, elderly with comorbidities.
• Occasional pediatric post‑op pain monitoring.
• Read telemetry strips using Mindray monitors; EPIC EMR used.
• Titrate drips (Heparin); experience with insulin, Cardizem, levophed, dopamine preferred.
• Charge RN may handle 1–2 patient assignments; assist with discharges.
• House Supervisor coverage nights/weekends; two nurse aides per shift.
• No dedicated RT; RT Now via iPad available; rare ventilated patients.
• Day/night 12-hour shifts; 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am; rotating schedule.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN with a Minnesota RN license for a rotating day/night acute care position.

Requirements

• Active Minnesota RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required (AHA)
• PALS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Previous travel assignment experience required
• Proficient in starting own IVs
• Orthopedic nursing experience required
• BSN not required

Responsibilities

• Work in a 25-bed acute Med/Surg unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 on days (may be lower based on acuity) and 1:5 on nights
• Patient population includes heavy orthopedic post-op cases (hips, knees, spine, shoulder), general post-op, GYN, pneumonia, CHF, COPD, and geriatric patients with multiple comorbidities
• Occasional pediatric patients under 18 for post-op pain control monitoring
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin, with preference for experience with insulin, cardizem, levophed, and dopamine
• No dedicated tele/monitor techs; RNs must be able to read their own telemetry strips using Mindray monitors
• Charge RN rarely takes a 1-2 patient assignment and assists with discharges and monitoring
• House Supervisor coverage on nights and weekends
• 2 nurse aides per shift
• No dedicated respiratory therapist; RT support available via 24-hour iPad access (RT Now) for CPAP, BiPAP, and nasal cannula; ventilated patients are rare and typically transferred unless RN has experience
• Day/night rotating 12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am
• Block scheduling allowed depending on unit needs
• Required to work every third weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Required to work every third holiday per facility rotation
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating requirements
• Unit-specific orientation includes three 12-hour shifts, including one day shift to gain access to programs and pharmacy
• Dress code requires navy blue scrubs with a navy scrub jacket; undershirts may be any color or print
• Paperwork must be submitted at least 7 business days before start date
• Straight night shifts may be required if needed
