Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN traveler for a Level II Trauma Center in Texas. Requires at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience and an active TX or compact RN license. First-time travelers welcome to apply and Epic EMR experience is required.

The role features a 3x12-hour day shift (7:00 AM–7:00 PM) with 1:5 patient ratios, the need to float between units, and 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week cycle. Housing assistance and travel reimbursements are provided.

Qualifications

• Active TX or compact RN license required, must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Experience with GI, respiratory, IV therapy, and wound care preferred
• Ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and pre/post neurosurgery care experience may be a plus
• SSN and DOB must be provided for consideration
• Two supervisory references covering 1 year within last 3 years required

Responsibilities

• Work in the Medical Surgical unit of a short-term acute care hospital with 379 staffed beds
• Level II Trauma Center setting
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts within a 6-week period
• Floating between units and sister facilities required
• No on‑call responsibilities
• Epic EMR experience required
• Provide direct patient care to Med/Surg patients including GI, respiratory, and post‑surgical cases
• Utilize rapid response and code teams as part of cardiac monitoring and emergency response protocols
• Dress code requires solid navy blue uniforms or scrub attire for licensed nursing personnel
• Free parking available in designated employee/visitor lots
• Must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day)
• RTO requests must be submitted upfront during the application process
• Local candidates accepted at standard bill rate
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius unless applying as a local candidate
• Former permanent employees may return as travelers after a 3‑month waiting period
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
