Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse House Supervisor with Cerner and Charge Nurse experience for a night shift assignment in Maryland. Active MD or Compact RN licensure is required; travel experience is preferred.

The role oversees nursing operations in an inpatient setting, manages bed assignments, and ensures regulatory compliance while maintaining a 40-hour weekly schedule and a 1:5-6 patient ratio.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (MD or Compact) required; pending MD license accepted
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required (house supervisor experience not required)
• Previous Charge Nurse experience required
• Cerner charting system experience required
• Must have completed at least one previous travel assignment
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, Bachelor's Degree
• Preferred certification: NIHSS
• Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment
• Must support at least 2 years of experience within the previous 3 years
• 2 years of recent experience within the last 7 years required
• Flu vaccine required

Responsibilities

• House Supervisor role in an inpatient acute care hospital setting
• Night shift schedule combining 12, 8, and 10 hour shifts to reach 40 hours per week
• Patient ratio of 1:5-6
• No on-call responsibilities and no floating required
• Holiday and weekend rotation required as needed
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week
• Oversee nursing operations and staffing across multiple units during assigned shifts
• Supervise nursing care delivery organizationally across all units
• Serve as a clinical expert resource for emergency care, code management, and rapid response situations
• Responsible for bed management, including new admissions, transfers, and post-procedure/post-surgery coordination
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements (DPH, TJC, OSHA) and risk management practices expected
• Experience with staffing models, scheduling, and human resource management required
• Scrub color required: Ceil Blue
• Local candidates accepted within 60 miles at a lower rate
• Candidates must reside within 60 miles for local rate eligibility, with address matching driver's license
• No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO during the first two weeks
• Former MedStar employees must have been separated for at least one year before returning as a traveler
