Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for Labor and Delivery in California, requiring CA RN licensure and 2+ years of L&D/Antepartum experience with Epic charting proficiency.

Night shift 7:00 PM–7:30 AM on a 3x12 schedule, 1:2 patient load, and on-call every two weeks; travel housing and licensure reimbursements offered. Role includes neonatal care, VBAC support, and comprehensive perinatal care.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, AWHONN Advanced, NRP, and FHM.
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery/Antepartum experience required.
• Epic charting experience required.
• Skilled in circulating, triage, and recovery of C-section patients.
• Experience with newborn care, magnesium sulfate therapy, and Pitocin administration.
• Experience with sterile vaginal exams, postpartum care, heel sticks, and hyperbilirubinemia management (TCB, TSB).
• Experience with discharge instructions, car seat education, blood transfusions, and circumcision care/assist.
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy and administration of blood and blood products.

Responsibilities

• Labor and Delivery unit with 24 beds and a census of 150-180 births per month.
• Patient population includes neonates, adolescents, and adults.
• Staffing ratio of 1:2.
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (19:00-7:30).
• Schedules built 6 weeks at a time; no block scheduling offered.
• Weekend requirement of approx. 7-9 shifts per 6-week period.
• On-call requirement of one shift every two weeks, with volunteer sign-up after initial scheduled call shifts.
• Float to Post Partum and Nursery units.
• Uses Omnicell, Epic, and SBAR communication systems.
• Scrubs provided.
• Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum stages.
• Perform fetal monitoring including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and IUPC placement/calibration.
• Support VBAC management and trial of labor patients.
• Provide newborn care including neonatal resuscitation, thermoregulation, and radiant warmer use.
• Assist with pain management including epidural anesthesia and nitrous oxide.
• Support breastfeeding and lactation, following baby friendly protocols.
• Requested time off must be submitted in advance.
