Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a level 1 trauma, level 3 perinatal center in Illinois. The role requires advanced AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification, high-risk OB experience, and the ability to manage magnesium and insulin drips.

Shifts are 12-hour days and nights, with 15-week assignment and 3x12hr blocks. Candidates must hold IL RN license, BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Epic EMR experience.

• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NRP certifications required.
• Advanced AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience preferred.
• Proficiency in high-risk OB patient care required.

• Epic EMR experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care across L&D, triage, OR circulating, and PACU recovery.
• Floats only to Postpartum and Antepartum units.
• No call or standby requirements.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a level 1 trauma, level 3 perinatal center requiring advanced AWHONN EFM certification and high-risk OB experience.

Details

• Unit includes 9 LDR procedure rooms, 2 OR suites, 1 PACU, 6 triage rooms, an 18-bed antepartum unit, and 36 private postpartum rooms
• Average daily census of 18 adult and 14 infant patients
• Cares for pregnant and high-risk pregnant patients including vaginal deliveries, cesarean deliveries, and cerclage placements
• Follows AWHONN staffing ratios: 1:1 for Pitocin induction and active labor, 2 RN:1 patient for vaginal and cesarean deliveries, 1:1 PACU, and 1 RN:3 patients in L&D triage
• Titrates Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin drips
• Circulates cesarean sections in OR and recovers patients in PACU
• Uses Epic Stork EFM system with Phillips monitors
• Charge nurse and house supervisor staffed 24/7; charge nurse does not take a patient assignment
• Support staff includes 1 PCT in L&D triage and 2-3 surgical techs per shift
• Labor hospitalist in house 24/7 and newborn hospitalists in house daily with night NICU coverage
• 12-hour day and night shifts with block scheduling available for travelers
• Weekend rotation of every 3rd weekend (Sat/Sun on days, Fri/Sat on nights)
• Floats only to Postpartum (team of 5-6 patients) and Antepartum (3 high-risk, intermittent EFM patients) units
• No call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS, and NRP certifications required
• Advanced AWHONN Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience preferred
• Proficiency in high-risk OB patient care required
• Experience managing Magnesium and Insulin drips required
• Proficiency in newborn care for both vaginal and cesarean deliveries required
• Epic EMR experience requiredNegative drug screen required for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive nursing care across L&D, triage, OR circulating, and PACU recovery
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday (3 per year for dayshift, 6 per year for nightshift)
• Dayshift staff asked to work the day before or after a non-assigned holiday unless otherwise arranged with unit leadership
• Surgical scrubs provided on unit
• Unit-specific orientation typically consists of 3 shifts
• Local rate applies to clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
• No radius rule for eligibility
• COVID vaccination not required
