Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position focused on cardiac and ventilator management. The role requires active KS or Compact RN licensure, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and ICU experience, with CPI/TNCC preferred.

Travel housing and licensure support are provided. Responsibilities include caring for complex cardiac and surgical ICU patients, 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, and floating to similar units as needed.

Qualifications

• Active KS or Compact RN license required.
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required; CPI and TNCC preferred.
• Minimum 2 years RN experience with at least 1 year in ICU (past 2–3 years).
• Trauma Level II experience preferred; CVA/stroke care experience helpful.
• Ventilator management, arterial/central line care, and IV therapy required.

Responsibilities

• Provide critical care to cardiac and surgical ICU patients in a surgical ICU setting.
• Manage 1:2 patient ratio and two ventilated patients with multiple titrations.
• Night shift: 19:00–07:30, 3x12-hour shifts; weekend coverage required.
• Floating to similar units as needed; Epic charting usage preferred.
• First-time travelers accepted; travel housing and licensure support provided.

Job description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position requiring cardiac and ventilator management skills.

Requirements

• Active KS or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; CPI and TNCC preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year of current dedicated ICU experience within the past 2-3 years
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, and PICC line management
• Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and respiratory therapies (BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC)
• Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and administering continuous IV sedation
• Cardiovascular skills preferred, including CABG, Impella, IABP, TAVR, and post cardiac surgery care
• Experience with CVA/stroke management and cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Experience with CRRT/CVVHD for renal patients preferred

Responsibilities

• Surgical ICU setting with a cardiac patient population
• Patient ratio of 1:2
• Must be able to manage two ventilated patients with multiple drip titrations simultaneously
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30
• Weekend shifts required
• Epic charting system preferred
• Floating to similar units within scope expected based on facility needs
• Provide critical care nursing to complex cardiac and surgical ICU patients
• First-time travelers accepted for this role
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates not accepted
• Former facility employees must have separated from permanent staff for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
• No more than 3 days of requested time off will be auto-approved, and no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
• Brief unit orientation provided prior to floating assignments
