Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in Washington. Requires critical care skills and an active WA or compact RN license.

The role includes 12-hour night shifts with no call, floating to PCU/medsurg, and region-wide coverage with a 10-bed ICU and 21-bed PCU. Prior ICU, ventilated patient, and hypothermia experience are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Active WA or Compact RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Experience with ventilated patients and TH (therapeutic hypothermia).
• Experience titrating drips (sedation, pressors, diuretics, insulin, Amiodarone).
• BSN not required for this position.
• Copy of driver's license required.
• Two professional references: 1 supervisor (last 12 months) and 1 peer/supervisor (last 3 years).

Responsibilities

• Acute care in a 10-bed ICU with 21-bed PCU.
• Patient loads: 2:1 ICU, 3:1 PCU (routinely) up to 3:1 ICU/4:1 PCU during peak.
• Treats patients with COVID, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, sepsis, DKA.
• Manages ventilated patients, cath lab recovery, and hypothermia cases.
• RNs titrate drips (sedation, pressors, diuretics, insulin, Amiodarone).
• Uses EPIC EMR system; RT coverage 24/7 in ICU.
• 12-hour night shifts; every other weekend; holiday rotation.
• Floating to PCU and medsurg; Region I facilities covered.
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage; nurse aide support in PCU.

• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 2:1 in ICU and 3:1 in PCU under normal circumstances, stretching to 3:1 ICU and 4:1 PCU
• Treats patients with COVID, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, sepsis, and DKA
• Manages ventilated patients, cath lab recovery, and therapeutic hypothermia cases
• RNs are required to titrate drips including sedation, pressors, diuretics, insulin, and Amiodarone
• Uses EPIC EMR system
• RT available in ICU 24/7 with vents, CPAP/BiPAP, and high flow equipment
• Remote tele/monitor techs available, but RNs are required to read their own strips
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff
• No call or standby requirement
• Primary floating to PCU and medsurg units, with additional float required throughout Region I facilities (St. Francis Hospital – Federal Way, WA; Virginia Mason Medical Center – Seattle, WA; St. Anne Hospital – Burien, WA)
• Centralized scheduling with 12-hour shift unit orientation
• Provide critical care nursing to ICU and PCU patients with complex diagnoses
• Charge nurse coverage 24 hours; house supervisor coverage from 1500-0700
• Nurse aide support available on PCU at 8:1 ratio, rarely available on ICU
• Intensivist coverage 0800-1500 and hospitalist coverage 24 hours
• No set scrub color; professional scrubs of any color permitted
• $20 premium rate offered when floated to other Region I facilities
