The ideal candidate has 2+ years ICU experience, active BLS/ACLS/ NIHSS, and CRRT certification. Expect rural duty, telehealth collaboration, ship-in housing allowances, and per diem support during orientation.

Responsibilities

• ICU unit, 10 beds in an acute care hospital setting
• Nurse-to-patient 1:2 ratio
• Titrate drips: vasopressors, inotropes, sedatives, analgesics, and other meds
• 24/7 hospitalist and respiratory therapy coverage with ventilators and high-flow devices
• RN reads telemetry strips with no dedicated monitor techs
• Charge nurse assigns patient load
• Floating required; traveler is first to float within Zone 4
• Uses Epic EMR
• 12 hours orientation provided
• Provide care in rural general ICU with telehealth support

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week travel assignment requiring critical care drip titration skills and KS or compact RN licensure.

Requirements

• Active KS or compact RN license required
• 2+ years of recent ICU experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• CRRT certification required
• Understanding of working in a rural setting and using telehealth for critical care and pulmonology support
• Ability to titrate critical care drips independently
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Responsibilities

• General ICU unit with 10 beds in an acute care hospital setting
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, chest pain, fever, cough, dyspnea, headache, injury, and extremity pain
• RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, inotropes, sedatives, analgesics, metabolic, and specialized medications
• 24/7 in-house hospitalist and respiratory therapy coverage with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment
• No dedicated tele/monitor techs; RNs must read their own telemetry strips and elevate as needed
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aide support available depending on patient volume
• Day shift schedule with self-scheduling and block scheduling options
• Weekend requirement of a minimum of six shifts per six-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required
• Call or standby requirements determined by the nurse manager
• Floating required and traveler is first to float; may float within Zone 4 for extreme need
• Uses Epic EMR
• 12 hours of orientation provided
• Provide critical care nursing services in a rural general ICU supported by onsite hospitalists and 24/7 respiratory therapy
• Collaborate with telehealth critical care and pulmonology services as needed
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Clinicians should plan to be in-state for orientation week, even if initial modules are completed remotely
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment
• Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility
• Float radius policy applies, requiring travelers to secure housing that allows them to float within their assigned zone
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility within the associated health system in the past year, though PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
