Job summary

American Traveler Staffing Professionals is seeking an experienced SICU RN for a Level II Trauma Center in Fredericksburg, VA. The nurse will care for trauma and cardiovascular surgery patients in a high-acuity SICU, with 36 hours/week on nights and required floating per unit needs.

Minimum 2 years ICU experience and active RN license are required; ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications are expected. Epic is used for documentation and care coordination.

Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced SICU RN for a Level II Trauma Center, requiring 2+ years of ICU experience and strong cardiovascular background.

Details
  • Night shift schedule of three 12-hour shifts (19:00-07:00)
  • SICU setting caring for trauma, cardiovascular surgery (TAVR, CABG), neurosurgery, and other complex surgical patients
  • Patient ratios of 1:2-3, appropriate to skill level and acuity during required floating
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Float within scope to other units based on facility needs, including non-ICU units at standard ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6
  • Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
  • Active VA or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; CSC and TNCC preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with strong cardiovascular experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Level II Trauma Center experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, arterial line management, blood product administration, and central/PICC line care
  • Experience managing ventilated patients, ABG interpretation, and IV insulin protocols
  • Experience with CVVHD/CRRT and care of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • Experience with continuous IV sedation and infection prevention/isolation precaution protocols
  • Preferred skills include ICP monitoring, ventilator management, procedural sedation, chest tube assistance, PA line/Swan Ganz monitoring, and Impella/IABP experience
Additional Information
  • Provide critical care nursing to a specialized surgical ICU population including open heart recovery, TAVR recovery, trauma cases, DKA, severe sepsis, and post-code blue patients
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Up to 8 hours of pre-start training modules required within one week of signing
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restriction
  • Travel pairs may be considered but same schedules are not guaranteed
  • RTO requests are subject to manager discretion and must be submitted with the initial application
  • Previous employees must have a one-year separation from the health system before returning
