Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 Trauma Center's Medical Intensive Care Unit, requiring 2.5 years of ICU experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• 17-bed unit with a 70/30 ICU to stepdown ratio in a Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital
• Patient population includes multi-system organ failure, DKA, sepsis, COPD, CHF, COVID, pneumonia, AKI, CKD, cardiac ICU (MI, post-CABG, post-cath, ablations, fem-pop bypass, AAA), ventilated/sedated patients, strokes, TPA, post cardiac arrest, and targeted temperature management
• ICU patient ratio is 1:1-2 based on acuity, and stepdown ratio is 1:3-4 based on acuity
• 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0730), 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating required to SICU and Tele/MS units (1:4-5 ratio), with travelers floated first
• No on-call requirements
• Overtime only in cases of dire need
• EPIC EMR preferred
• Uses Alaris IV Pump, Pyxis, Phillips Monitors, Bellmont mass transfusion, and Kreg verticalization beds

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2.5 years of ICU experience required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• CCRN certification preferred
• Experience with trach, ventilator, BiPAP, chest tubes, arterial lines, and Swan Ganz catheters required
• Experience managing cardiovascular complications and titrating vasopressor and sedation/analgesia required
• Experience with CRRT (Prismaflex), insulin drips, TR band and sheath removal, wound vac, balloon pump, and Impella required
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct bedside care for critically ill ICU patients including ventilator/sedated, cardiac, stroke, and post cardiac arrest cases
• Unit supported by 1 CNA, RT, hospitalist, resident physician, rescue team, nursing supervisor, and resource nurse/house supervisor available 24/7
• Charge nurse occasionally takes a patient assignment
• RN performs all blood draws; IV/VAT team assists with difficult sticks and PICC lines but is not available on night shift
• Attending physician reachable virtually during off hours
• Orientation consists of 2 shifts, including one in SICU
• Holiday coverage required for 1 summer and 1 winter holiday (nights, eve into holiday day)
• RN scrub color is navy
• Candidates with a strong ICU background will be considered even as first-time travelers
• No radius restrictions and local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible for this travel assignment

Weekly local pay is fully taxable and therefore lower due to additional employer-paid taxes and related costs.
