Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position at a Level III trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and passing an Advanced EKG exam. The role requires an active NC or Compact RN license, BLS/ACLS/NIHSS, and Epic EMR experience.

Travel nursing experience is required. Night shifts are 19:00–07:00 with a 1:2–3 patient ratio, benefits include housing allowance, travel reimbursements, and day-one medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in ICU settings (Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Neuro)
• Work in a Level III Trauma Center with 733 beds
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
• Maintain patient safety with appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios
• Use Epic EMR for charting and documentation
• Float to related units as needed within scope

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required (pending license not accepted)
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience required
• Must pass Advanced EKG exam prior to start, no exceptions
• Epic EMR experience required
• No background or license actions within the past 12 months
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, and PICC line management required
• Experience with care of ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP management, and chest tube assist required
• Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips, emergency medications, and continuous IV sedation/paralytics required
• Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and multisystem organ dysfunction required
• Experience obtaining 12-lead EKG/ECG required
• Experience with IV insulin protocols required

Responsibilities

• ICU setting within a short-term acute care, Level III Trauma Center and teaching hospital with 733 staffed beds
• Patient ratios of 1:2-3
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:00
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within scope to like units or affiliated campuses based on staffing needs
• Uses Epic EMR
• Provide direct patient care in Medical, Surgical, Trauma, and Neuro ICU settings
• Scrub color requirement: royal blue and white
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the main campus to be eligible for this position
• Maximum of 4 days RTO permitted, with only one major holiday request allowed
• Former employees must be separated from the facility for at least one year before returning as a traveler
• Extension policy allows one extension for day shift and two extensions for night shift, with a six-month wait required after reaching the maximum
• System-wide limit of two contracts before requiring a six-month break
• Completion of pre-start modules required, estimated 4-10 hours
• First-time travelers accepted only at manager's discretion based on experience level
