Job summary
American Traveler Staffing Professionals is seeking a Critical Care Float RN for a Surgical ICU role in Allentown, PA. Requires 2+ years CVICU and ICU experience, PA or Compact RN license, and certifications such as ACLS and BLS.
The role involves floating across critical care units in a teaching hospital setting. Day shifts are 3x12 hours with no on-call requirements, and you’ll work in a Level I trauma center environment with diverse CVICU cases.
Qualifications
- Active PA state RN license or Compact RN license.
- Minimum 2 years CVICU experience and 2 years ICU experience.
- ACLS and BLS certifications; NIHSS preferred; TNCC preferred.
- Experience in teaching hospital and Trauma Level I settings.
Responsibilities
- Provide critical care nursing support across float assignments in a high-acuity Surgical ICU.
- Float across critical care units within a teaching hospital and Level I trauma center.
- Day shifts, 3x12-hour shifts; no on-call required; every other weekend/holiday.
- Perform IV therapy, arterial line, central line care, and ventilator management as needed.

American Traveler is hiring a Critical Care Float RN for a Surgical ICU role requiring 2 years CVICU experience and PA or compact RN licensure.
- Critical Care Float pool position within a Surgical Intensive Care Unit at a teaching hospital and Trauma Level I facility
- Adult patient population with ratios ranging from 1:1 to 3:1
- Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Floating required across critical care units
- No on-call responsibilities
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Epic charting system used
- Active PA state RN license or Compact RN license required in hand
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Critical Care Float Pool experience preferred
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- TNCC certification preferred
- Experience in teaching hospital and Trauma Level I settings required
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care
- Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Experience with chest tube insertion/removal assistance and BiPAP/CPAP management
- Cardiovascular skills including care of ECMO patients, CABG, IABP, Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring, and TAVR
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips and administering continuous IV sedation
- CRRT/CVVHD experience preferred
- Cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred
- PA fingerprint clearance and Childline results within 12 months required
- Must complete labs within 48 hours of signing
- Pass/Fail clinical exam required with maximum of 3 attempts
- Valid state license or certification required at time of consideration
- Two valid professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required
- Copies of certifications required for consideration
- Provide critical care nursing support across float assignments in a high-acuity Surgical ICU
- Work within a teaching hospital and Level I trauma center environment
- Complete facility orientation modules during scheduled orientation period
- RTO must be submitted at time of consideration; no additional time off accepted after submission
- Interview availability of 3-5 days should be provided to prioritize scheduling
- Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a different rate
- Candidates must reside within 50-mile radius for local rate eligibility
- Application and reference materials must be free of agency branding or logos
