American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a busy CVICU position at a Level 1 trauma hospital in Houston. The role requires CRRT training and TX or compact RN licensure, with unit-specific orientation and 24/7 RN support.

The assignment features nights (7p-7a), 36 hours/week, and a 13-week duration, with 5 openings. RN experience in high-acuity settings is preferred and travel-specific requirements apply.

  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 3+ years and prior travel experience preferred.

  • CRRT/SLED training preferred; unit willing to train.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care in the Cardiovascular ICU (C8B) of a Level 1 trauma hospital.
  • Care for heart and lung transplant, LVAD, ACB, and valve surgery patients.
  • Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2, occasionally 1:1.
  • Utilize EPIC EMR for patient documentation.
  • Work night shifts, 7p-7a, with every-other-weekend schedule.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a busy CVICU position requiring CRRT training and TX or compact RN licensure at a Level 1 trauma hospital.

Details
  • Work in the Cardiovascular ICU (C8B) of a busy, high-acuity Level 1 trauma hospital
  • Patient population includes heart and lung transplant, LVAD, ACB, and valve surgery patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2, occasionally 1:1
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • Night shift schedule, 7p-7a, every other weekend required
  • 12-hour shifts scheduled based on unit needs; no self-scheduling
  • 6 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule period
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating required, with RNs floated first based on competency
  • RT assigned to unit 24/7 for ventilator, CPAP, and BiPap management
  • Charge RN typically carries a patient assignment
  • 1 PCA supports the unit
  • Hardwire telemetry monitoring used on unit
Requirements
  • Active TX or Compact RN license required

  • Previous experience in a busy, high-acuity hospital setting preferred
  • CRRT/SLED training preferred; unit willing to train
  • Must be able to titrate vasoactive and other cardiac drips
  • Experience with LVAD, Impella, and IABP devices helpful
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide critical care nursing for complex cardiovascular and post-surgical patients
  • Manage titratable vasoactive drips and support advanced cardiac device patients (LVAD, CRRT/SLED, Impella, IABP)
  • Receive 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
  • Teal scrubs required per unit dress code
  • Willing to work any holidays as needed
  • First-time travelers considered if they meet experience requirements
  • Candidates previously employed directly (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible
