Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Home Health RN with acute/med-surg and orthopedic experience for a 13-week day shift assignment in Illinois.

The role covers adult patients across a POD with a 5x8 day shift, driving travel demands, and charting in EPIC. On-call and weekend coverage are required; mileage is reimbursed. First-time travelers are welcome, with travel/housing benefits provided.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license required.
• BLS certification required.
• Phlebotomy certification required.
• 1–2 years of medical-surgical or acute care experience required.
• Minimum 1 year of home health experience required.
• Orthopedic experience required.
• Wound care, wound vac management, IV therapy, and central line/port care.
• Experience with point-of-care equipment including glucometers, PT/INR devices, and IV pumps.
• OASIS documentation experience preferred.
• Experience with post-surgical, post-stroke, post-ortho/joint, and trach care patient populations.

Responsibilities

• Home Health setting covering adult patients across an assigned POD (zip code group) with a multidisciplinary care team.
• Average caseload of 5-20 visits per day using a daily point productivity system.
• Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours (8:00-17:00).
• Rotating weekend coverage required (every 3rd to 4th weekend as needed).
• On-call responsibilities required after hours and on scheduled weekends.
• Clinicians may be asked to assist in other PODs as needed to meet patient care demands.
• Territory coverage ranges from 40-80 miles depending on patient locations.
• Charting completed in EPIC.
• Provide skilled home health nursing care including wound care, IV therapy, post-surgical assessments, and patient/family education.
• Conduct OASIS documentation, admission assessments, and discharge planning.
• Deliver care for ortho patients including cast, brace, and immobilizer device management, and post-amputation or post-joint replacement care.
• Represent oneself professionally as part of the care organization with strong customer service skills.
• Royal blue scrubs required.
• Mileage reimbursed at $0.55/mile.
• Maximum 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation.
• First-time travelers are accepted for this role.
• Local candidates within a 75-mile radius are not accepted.
• Previous permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to this facility as a traveler.
• Standard travelers may work up to 18 months total, followed by a required 3-month break in service.
