Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Room RN for a Level 2 trauma ED in California. The role requires strong ER travel experience and Epic proficiency to support high-acuity patient care.

The position includes 12-hour shifts, a 36-hour weekly schedule, and travel-friendly benefits such as housing assistance, licensure reimbursement, and travel stipends. CA RN license and AHA certifications are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS (AHA) or ENPC and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years ER experience; 3–5 years preferred.
• Epic charting experience required with documented Epic use.
• Prior ER travel experience required.
• Strong references; trauma and pediatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Level 2 trauma ED with 44 beds and daily census 190–200.
• Elderly patient population with STEMI, stroke, syncope, trauma, and falls.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4.
• Bedside triage of ambulance patients; hold admissions as needed.
• 12-hour shifts (evening/night) and 36 hours per week; every other weekend; one major holiday.
• No on-call and no floating.
• Epic documentation and Pyxis medication dispensing.
• Ventilator management and ABG support; pediatric equipment available.

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS (AHA only) or ENPC, and NIHSS certifications required
• CEN and TNCC certifications strongly preferred
• Minimum 2 years of recent ER clinical experience required, 3-5 years preferred
• Prior ER travel experience required
• Epic charting experience required, with work history documenting Epic use
• Superior clinical references required
• Trauma and pediatric experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

• Level 2 trauma emergency department with 44 beds and average daily census of 190-200 patients
• High elderly patient population with diagnoses including STEMI, stroke, syncope, weakness, trauma, and falls
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:4
• Travelers perform bedside triage of ambulance patients and hold inpatient admissions at times
• 12-hour rotating shifts (evening/night) covering start times of 1p, 3p, 5p, and 7p, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• One major holiday requirement
• No on-call responsibilities and no floating required
• Support staff includes ER techs, physician assistants, 24/7 respiratory therapy and anesthesia, phlebotomy, and a lines team
• RT manages all ventilators, breathing treatments, and ABGs
• Documentation via Epic and medication dispensing via Pyxis
• Special equipment includes art-lines in trauma, Hospira infusion pumps, and pediatric syringe pumps
• Must reside within a 50 mile radius of the facility
• Orientation includes two ED shifts (24 hours total) plus one shift with an educator (4-6 hours)
• Strong focus on patient experience and nursing excellence
• Fast-paced environment with quick discharge turnover requiring strong critical thinking skills
• Patient population is well-informed and may be vocal about care standards
• Professional appearance required, including non-skid closed-toe shoes, minimal jewelry, and neat hair/facial hair
• Good teamwork and positive attitude required
