Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ER RN for a community hospital ED. Requires VA or compact RN license and EPIC charting experience. Night shifts 3x12s (19:00–07:00) with 1:4 patient ratio and potential float within scope.

Minimum 1 year ER experience in a community hospital setting is required; BSN preferred. Certifications ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS are required; NRP/TNCC preferred.

Qualifications

• Active VA or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration.
• Minimum 1 year ER experience
• Community hospital experience
• BSN preferred; diploma or ASN accepted from ACEN or CCNE accredited programs
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Preferred certifications: NRP, TNCC
• EPIC charting experience required
• Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central line care, blood product administration, ABGs interpretation
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and triage
• 2 professional references required (supervisor level or above)

Responsibilities

• Provide ER nursing care in a community hospital Emergency Department.
• Care for a broad range of adult and pediatric emergencies.
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00.
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:4 and perform triage.
• Floating within scope as needed.
• Handle trauma, stroke, cardiac, and pediatric emergencies.
• Apply isolation precautions and PPE as required.
• Complete orientation modules during on-boarding week.
• Adhere to facility nail policy; smoke-free campus.
• Fingerprinting per Virginia state code with results prior to start.

• Care for a variety of ER cases including trauma, stroke, cardiac, and pediatric emergencies
• Provide emergency nursing care across a wide range of trauma, cardiac, neurological, and pediatric presentations
• Perform triage and apply isolation precautions/PPE as needed
• Complete required orientation modules through the VCU Learning Exchange during orientation week
• Subject to a natural nail policy
• Facility is a smoke and tobacco-free workplace
• All ER candidates must undergo fingerprinting per Virginia state code, with results required prior to start (15-20 business day turnaround)
• Local candidates accepted at the same base rate with no radius restrictions
• Previous VCU Health employees must have been separated for at least one year to be eligible to return as a traveler
• RTO requests must be submitted with consideration and are subject to manager approval; no time off granted during the first week of assignment
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
