American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Emergency Department assignment in Georgia. You'll work nights (7p-7a), 36 hours per week over a 13-week contract, caring for 70-80 patients daily with a 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratio.

The position requires GA or compact RN licensure, 2+ years ED experience, and BLS/ACLS/ENPC or PALS/NIHSS certifications. EPIC EMR proficiency is essential, with no on-call expectations.

Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Emergency Department position requiring a GA or compact RN license and at least 2 years of ER experience.

Details

• Work in a high-acuity Emergency Department with 24 beds, including 4 behavioral health rooms and 2 critical care rooms
• Unit features a 9-chair vertical flow fast track area and a separate triage area where travelers are required to perform triage
• Behavioral health patients are cared for in 4 dedicated safe rooms with 24/7 in-house security
• Treat approximately 70-80 patients per day with a 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
• 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7a with minimal weekend requirements due to strong weekend coverage
• Floating required between 3 Memorial campuses located within 20-25 miles of each other, though infrequent
• No call or standby requirements
• Patient population spans ages 20-90 with common diagnoses including chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, and uncontrolled diabetes
• Facility is a STEMI and stroke receiving center with no trauma designation; critical patients are transferred out for intervention
• Large level 1 trauma facility and children's hospital located 20 minutes away
• No OB services onsite, though occasional precipitous deliveries may occur
• Common drips administered include levophed, epinephrine, fentanyl, and propofol
• RNs perform their own lab draws and read their own telemetry strips using GE monitors
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs; RNs troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment but do not manage them directly
• 1 PCT staffed per shift to assist with transport and phlebotomy
• Charge nurse staffed 24/7 and occasionally takes patient assignments, primarily behavioral health cases
• 1 ED physician staffed at all times with 2-3 midlevel providers added during peak hours

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
• BLS, ACLS, ENPC or PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Must be highly skilled and proficient with EPIC EMR
• Experience functioning in a fast-paced ER with fewer resources than large teaching or trauma facilities preferred
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Not suitable for new graduate ED nurses; must be self-sufficient and comfortable managing high acuity patients

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced, high-acuity Emergency Department setting
• Rarely experiences patient boarding but frequently transfers critical patients due to acuity level
• Holiday coverage expected unless otherwise negotiated in contract
• Scrub color is navy blue; plain or facility-branded sweatshirts permitted, no hoodies allowed
• Orientation includes two 8-hour hospital orientation shifts followed by two 12-hour in-unit clinical orientation shifts with a preceptor
• Candidates who have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible, though PRN employment through outside staffing firms will be considered
