Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in Prescott Valley, AZ. Requires AZ license or compact, with at least 2 years ED nursing experience and critical care certifications.

The role supports a Level 4 trauma ED with 24 beds, 4 critical rooms, and trauma care capabilities. The nurse will work 12-hour evening shifts, with every other weekend and one on-call shift per 28 days.

Qualifications

• Active AZ or compact RN license required

• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, ENPC or PALS, and TNCC
• Conscious sedation experience required
• Strong critical thinking skills and AMI management experience required
• Prior driver's license copy required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Level 4 trauma Emergency Department
• Manage patient flow with RN-to-patient ratios as specified (1:4 general ED; 1:2 or 1:1 for ICU-level patients)
• Operate in an intake model for lower-acuity patients with flexible shifts
• Support triage duties after competency demonstration; ED holds management within department
• Coordinate with ED techs for IV starts, phlebotomy, wound care and transport
• Provide care during 12-hour evening shifts; every other weekend (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights)
• Perform charting in Cerner and read telemetry strips
• Coordinate with radiology, respiratory therapy, and paramedic support during peak times
• Assist with trauma and major diagnoses such as chest/abdominal pain and respiratory distress
• Attend orientation and mentored shifts at multiple ED locations

Responsibilities

• Level 4 trauma Emergency Department with 24 beds, 4 critical rooms, and 1 trauma room
• Uses an intake model for lower acuity patients with flexible RN to patient ratios
• Separate triage area available, with travelers considered for triage duties once competency is demonstrated
• ED holds are managed within the department rather than a separate holding area
• Two well-equipped psych/seclusion rooms available
• Treats an average of 80-110 patients per day
• Nurse to patient ratios of 1:4 for general ED and 1:2 or 1:1 for ICU-level patients in the ED
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, minor trauma, and respiratory distress
• Charting completed in Cerner
• Evening shift schedule with 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend required (Sat/Sun days, Fri/Sat nights)
• One on-call shift required per 28-day schedule
• Floating required between east and west ED locations, generally prescheduled
• Block scheduling available up to 4 consecutive shifts, no self-scheduling
• Provide direct patient care in a fast-paced Level 4 trauma Emergency Department
• Work alongside ED techs (1:10-12 ratio) who assist with IV starts, phlebotomy, splinting, wound care, and transport
• Paramedic support staffed during peak hours to assist with intake and basic interventions
• Respiratory therapy support available for intubation, vent setup, Bi-Pap, and ABGs, with RNs troubleshooting equipment as needed
• RNs are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage available 24/7
• X-Ray/CT and radiology services located adjacent to the ED
• Holiday coverage required for some major holidays including July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, and New Year's Eve/Day
• Unit orientation includes two days of hospital orientation followed by mentored shifts at both east and west ED locations
• Navy blue Dignity scrubs required per dress code
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position
• Candidates previously employed directly by CommonSpirit-affiliated facilities within the past year are not eligible
