Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department travel assignment in Alabama. The role requires at least 2 years of ED experience and Cerner proficiency, with 12-hour night shifts on a 36/48 schedule.

Applicants must hold an active RN license (AL or Compact) and current certifications (ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, CPI). Pediatric cases are not typically seen at this facility.

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency nursing care across a range of medical and trauma cases.
• Care for geriatric, stroke, cardiac, and trauma patients; pediatric cases not typical.
• Operate with Cerner EMR, Plum 360 pumps, Omnicell, and Spacelabs monitors.
• Maintain 1:4 patient ratio and ensure patient safety on 12-hour nights.
• Support staffing with ED team; no on-call requirements.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring at least 2 years of experience and Cerner proficiency for night shift coverage.

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
• Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI or similar
• Minimum 2 years of experience required for first-time travelers
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Skills required include trach care, vent care, ICU drip management, chest tube, art line, CVL, PICC, midline, port, foley, splint/ortho device application, BiPAP/hi-flow, and continuous bladder irrigation
• Pediatric experience not required

Responsibilities

• 17-bed Emergency Department setting
• Patient population includes geriatric, psych, stroke, cardiac, sports injury, and MVA cases
• Pediatric patients are not typically seen at this facility
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Unit support includes PCT, Unit Assistant, ED MD, night LPN, and Emergency Care Tech (11a-11p)
• Charge nurse typically not included in staffing assignment
• Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
• No floating required
• 12-hour night shifts on a 36/48 schedule, 7p-7a
• Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month on block schedule)
• No on-call requirements
• 6-week schedule cycle
• Provide emergency nursing care across a range of medical and trauma cases
• New hires or those with less than 1 year of experience complete 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit orientation
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
• Up to 7 days of time off can be pre-approved, excluding blackout dates; requests over 7 days require email approval
• Any scrub color permitted
• Free employee parking available
• Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility
• Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a travel assignment
• First-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of experience and Cerner background
