Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Cardiac Telemetry RN for a fast-paced primary cardiac and stroke unit. Requires 2+ years of Cardiac Telemetry experience with ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications and NC/Compact RN license.

Shifts are 12 hours (18:45–07:15) with 13–26 week contracts and possible 36-hour weeks. Orientation and hospital onboarding are required; expect self-scheduling and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required.
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required.
• Epic charting experience preferred.
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, telemetry monitoring, pre/post cardiac procedure care, cardiac drip management.
• Experience with pacemakers, cardiac catheterization, and TR bands preferred.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.

Responsibilities

• Primary cardiac and stroke unit within a hospital setting.
• Patient ratios 1:5-6, with surge capacity up to 6 patients.
• 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
• 13-26 week contract options available.
• 36 hours per week can be offered.
• Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling permitted.
• Every other weekend required, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within a 6-week period.
• On-call requirements vary based on patient census.
• Floating required within or near the facility.
• Uses Epic Dimensions, Pyxis, and SBAR communication.
• Team lead support available to assist with admissions and discharges.
• Unit turns over approximately 78-90 patients per week.
• Provide care for stable pre/post procedure cardiac patients including pacemaker implants, cardioverter/defibrillators, and cardiac catheterization.
• Manage patients with unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA diagnoses.
• Monitor and titrate cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone.
• Unit houses COVID-positive patients using high-flow oxygen and BiPAP during surges.
• 36 hours of unit orientation required; must be available all week one for hospital orientation.

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required, pending acceptable at submission
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Telemetry experience required (hard requirement, no substitutions)
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Skills required: IV therapy/phlebotomy, telemetry monitoring, pre/post cardiac procedure care, cardiac drip management
• Experience managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (titration preferred)
• Experience with pacemakers, cardiac catheterization, and TR bands preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (perm/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a reduced rate
• Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved (excluding holidays); no RTO allowed during first week
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate schedules and transportation
