Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position in North Carolina. The role requires NC or compact RN licensure, BLS/ACLS, and a minimum of 2 years in cardiac nursing.

The unit uses arterial lines, EKG, and various cardiac procedures; night shifts are 3x12 hours with 36 hours per week. Responsibilities include caring for patients with AFib, CHF, ACS, and CAD, supporting post-procedural care for CABG and TAVR, and working with Epic/SBAR systems.

Qualifications

• Active NC or compact RN license required.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac nursing experience required.
• MS/Tele or Step-down experience preferred.
• Epic charting experience preferred.
• IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial and central line management, and peripheral line care.
• Experience managing and titrating cardiac drips preferred.
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Wound care/wound vac experience preferred.
• Radial artery line experience preferred.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.

Responsibilities

• Care on Cardiac Telemetry unit within a Rapid Response department.
• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15), 36 hours per week.
• Patient ratio of 1:6.
• Patient population includes AFib, CHF, ACS, CAD and other cardiac conditions.
• Post-procedural care for CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR and other cardiac surgeries.
• Uses arterial lines, EKG, chest tubes, and related devices.
• Utilizes Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR systems; floating as needed.
• Weekend coverage required; 4 shifts per 4 weeks; no on-call.
• May be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Team during disasters.
• First-time travelers accepted with >24 months cardiac experience.
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate.

• Patient population includes Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, carotid stenosis, and venous stasis
• Unit supports post-procedural care for CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman), VATS, carotid endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass, amputations, and other cardiac/thoracic/vascular surgeries
• Uses arterial lines, Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, fem-stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
• Utilizes Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR communication systems
• Floating required as needed
• Weekend coverage required (4 shifts per 4 weeks)
• No on-call requirements
• Contracts of 13-26 weeks accepted
• May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
• Provide cardiac telemetry nursing care including post-cath, post-DCCV, and post-electrophysiology monitoring
• 24-hour unit orientation provided
• Scrub requirement: navy blue pants with white top
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 7 days of RTO auto-approved if not on a holiday; no RTO during first week of assignment
• First-time travelers accepted only if they have more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying, with facility approval required
• Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate
• Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate schedules and transportation
