Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Telemetry RN for a fast-paced cardiac and stroke unit in Salisbury, NC. Requires 2 years cardiac telemetry experience and NC or compact RN licensure, plus BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.

This travel assignment features night shifts 18:45–07:15, 36 hours weekly, self-scheduling with leadership oversight, and EPIC/Pyxis usage. Travel benefits include medical/dental/vision, 401(k), and weekly pay.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity telemetry unit for cardiac and stroke patients.
  • Manage multiple cardiac drips with titration (e.g., Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone).
  • Maintain 1:5–6 patient ratio with high turnover.
  • Night shifts 18:45–07:15; 36 hours per week may be offered.
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; float to other units as needed.
  • Use EPIC (Dimensions) and Pyxis for medication/d Documentation with SBAR communication.
  • Unit may care for COVID-positive patients with opti-flow/BiPAP when needed.
  • Open to first-time travelers with 2+ years telemetry experience.

Job description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Telemetry RN for a fast-paced cardiac and stroke unit requiring 2 years of cardiac telemetry experience and NC or compact RN licensure.


Requirements
  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiac telemetry experience required (hard requirement, no exceptions)
  • PCU experience not required, but cardiac telemetry experience is mandatory
  • EPIC charting experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and arterial line management
  • Experience managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips preferred
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response situations
  • Experience with pacemakers, post cardiac angiogram and cath, and pre/post cardiac surgery care preferred
  • Comfortable with non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and nasal cannula use
  • Wound care/wound vac and insulin drip titration experience preferred

Responsibilities
  • Primary cardiac and stroke telemetry unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes pre/post pacemaker and ICD implantation, cardiac catheterization, TR bands, uncomplicated peripheral vascular and cardiac interventions, unstable angina, chest pain evaluation, CHF, dysrhythmias, and new CVA/TIA patients
  • Manages multiple cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, and Amiodarone with titration required
  • Target patient ratio of 1:5-6, with high patient turnover averaging 78-90 patients per week
  • Team lead available to assist with admissions and discharges
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15
  • 36 hours per week may be offered
  • Self-scheduling with leadership oversight; no block scheduling permitted
  • Float requirement to other units as needed
  • Call requirement with frequency dependent on patient census
  • Every other weekend required, including 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays within a 6-week period
  • Uses Pyxis and EPIC (Dimensions) for medication and documentation, with SBAR communication
  • Unit may care for COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BiPAP for chronic, stable use only
  • Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity, fast-paced telemetry environment with frequent patient turnover
  • 36 hours of unit orientation required, with availability needed every day during week one
  • Navy blue or white scrubs (or a mix) and Novant t-shirts permitted; matching jackets required and no crocs with holes allowed
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • RTO of 7 days or less may be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • First-time travelers will be considered, provided they have at least 2 years of cardiac telemetry experience
  • Local candidates accepted at the standard travel rate
  • Travel pairs are allowed if assigned to different units and disclosed at time of submission
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before applying and disclose prior employment details for facility approval
  • Current travel or per diem clinicians at the facility are not eligible for this travel contract and must choose one assignment type
