Job summary

Virginia Department of Health seeks a Medical Facilities Inspector Supervisor to lead inspections and investigations in the Long-Term Care Division. The role requires evaluating health services against regulations and communicating findings clearly.

Travel is extensive, with 80% weekly travel and state-wide coverage, supported by a driver’s license. Ideal candidates are health care professionals with clinical experience and supervisory ability.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in articulate and legally defensible manner.
• Knowledge of quality-of-care issues, health care operations, management and service delivery systems.
• Ability to interpret and consistently apply laws and regulations and understand consequence of violations.
• Management skills in planning, analysis, scheduling, team building and providing customer services.
• General knowledge of MS Office Suite.
• Ability to supervise a diverse workforce, which may be dispersed throughout the state in home-based offices.
• If working in LTC and/or Complaint unit, must obtain SMQT Certification within 12 months of hire date. All MFI’s must obtain medical clearance for fit testing in accordance with OSHA Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) within 90 days of hire date and annually except for Complaint Unit.

Responsibilities

• Conduct onsite surveys/inspections and complaint investigations.
• Perform state licensure inspections and interpret state laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
• Prepare written findings documenting compliance status and recommendations.
• Travel approximately 80% during the workweek; primary service area is East Central Virginia with possible regional travel.
• Operate as a mobile worker using personal vehicle or state vehicle with Virginia license.
• Ensure timely travel scheduling to meet deadlines and communicate findings clearly.
