Job summary

Covenant House Illinois is hiring a Youth Engagement Specialist to join the residential and drop-in programs. You will engage youth with empathy, guide them through individualized plans, and support health, safety, and well-being in a trauma-informed framework.

Responsibilities include meal support, documentation, safety checks, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. Shift patterns and on-site work reflect a 24/7 program with overtime and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field required; OR High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Ability to work 24/7 program with some holidays/weekends.
• Demonstrated crisis management and trauma-informed approach.
• Strong written, verbal, listening and communication skills.
• Ability to pass all required background checks.
• Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
• Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
• Cultural competence with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and engage youth in day-to-day activities with empathy and respect.
• Assist in creating and implementing individualized success plans.
• Serve meals and prepare lunch bags when needed.
• Wand and bag checks to ensure safety; participate in room searches as directed.
• Document all interactions and progress in agency systems (ETO).
• Coordinate with YDC Coordinators and Case Managers for intakes.
