Job summary

The Children's Guild DC in Ward 5, Washington, DC is seeking a Teacher Assistant to join our trauma-informed, charter school community. You will work side by side with lead teachers and clinical staff to support students with diverse learning, behavioral, and emotional needs.

This role emphasizes individualized instruction, 1:1 and small group learning, and consistent use of PBIS and behavior plans. You will help create a safe, nurturing classroom culture and contribute to student growth every

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required; degrees in Education, Psychology, or Human Services preferred.
  • Experience with children with disabilities or behavioral challenges is a plus.
  • Familiarity with PBIS or trauma-informed practices is beneficial.
  • Warm, patient, and caring approach to students with complex needs.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure and work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with diverse learning and behavioral needs in the classroom under the lead teacher.
  • Assist with individualized instruction and 1:1 or small group learning.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans consistently throughout the day.
  • Collect and record behavioral and academic data for IEP monitoring.
  • Use trauma-informed positive reinforcement to support regulation and engagement.
  • Supervise students during meals, recess, and transitions.
  • Communicate observations to the lead teacher and clinical team promptly.
  • Contribute to a safe, structured classroom culture aligned with TCG DC.
