Job summary

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is seeking Positive Support Specialists to work in ICRS programs, supporting individuals with intensive medical, behavioral and mental health needs. You will help clients pursue meaningful goals through home and community activities, using a person-centered approach.

The role emphasizes safety, routine, and collaboration with teams to enable independence, dignity, and community participation in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; degree in a relevant field preferred.
• 1–2 years experience with people with complex needs; 3–5 years preferred.
• Must pass Bureau of Criminal Affairs background check and have a valid drivers license.
• Must be able to stand, squat, bend, or walk for long periods; lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals to be more independent in essential life skills such as meal preparation, personal hygiene and navigating the community.
• Advocate for the people supported in areas such as rights, medical care and in the community.
• Complete necessary documentation and record-keeping every shift.
• Manage crisis situations safely and effectively – training for Positive Behavioral Supports and restraints.
• Engage in trauma-informed care daily.
