Job summary

Children’s Home Society of South Dakota in Aberdeen is seeking a Special Education Classroom Teacher to provide individualized, meaningful instruction and a structured, trauma-responsive learning environment that supports students’ academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth.

You will plan and deliver instruction aligned with IEP goals, manage IEP responsibilities, monitor progress, and collaborate with families, schools, and interdisciplinary teams to meet each student’s needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or Elementary Education is required.
• South Dakota teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement is required.
• Experience with students with emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs is preferred.
• Experience providing special education services and supporting IEPs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction across students’ academic, developmental, social, and emotional needs.
• Case manage IEPs and collaborate with the educational team and administrators.
• Establish a trauma-responsive, structured classroom environment with clear rules and routines.
• Maintain organized classroom procedures and supervise students throughout the day.
• Monitor and document student progress and communicate with families and partners.
• Work collaboratively with staff, families, and public school partners to support students.
• Provide leadership within the classroom and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
