Job summary

Roof Above in Charlotte, NC seeks a Shelter Specialist to support daily shelter operations and create a trauma-informed, person-centered environment for guests. Under the Shelter Supervisor, you will facilitate smooth bed assignments, coordinate daily routines and ensure clear documentation, while maintaining safety and compassionate, professional conduct at all times.

Qualifications include a high school diploma (bachelor's preferred) and CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience working with homeless populations and in a homeless shelter is preferred.
• Must be CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification within 60 days.
• Knowledge of homelessness issues; effective intervention techniques; and teamwork.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic needs assistance to shelter guests.
• Coordinate bed assignments, smoke breaks, and daily routines.
• Monitor facility activities for safe operations and coordinate with case managers.
• Complete daily logs, incident reports, and shelter paperwork.
• Adhere to schedules and maintain professional behavior, including difficult conversations.
• Complete HMIS training within 30 days.
