Job summary

Roof Above in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Director of Shelter Operations to oversee three shelter locations serving 500+ individuals nightly. You will supervise Shelter Managers, develop and implement policies, and ensure staffing coverage across all shifts while maintaining safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or a minimum of two years in human services or related fields.
• Prior supervisory or leadership experience with staff direction and accountability.
• Ability to lead inclusively and build a respectful team culture.
• Experience scheduling across multiple shifts and sites for safety.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Effective written and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders.
• Knowledge of homelessness services principles and crisis response.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily shelter operations across three locations serving 500+ nightly.
• Provide supervision for Shelter Managers; ensure proper coverage and staffing.
• Develop, implement, and adapt shelter policies and protocols as needed.
• Lead staff recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance feedback.
• Collaborate with HR for staff concerns, investigations, and communications.
• Ensure safety, compliance, and resource management across sites.
• Engage volunteers and coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Organize monthly staff and shift supervisor meetings and reporting.
