Job summary

The Women's Center in New Bedford, MA is seeking a part-time Shelter Support Staff member to provide a calm, friendly, dependable presence in the emergency shelter during evening and overnight hours. This is an entry-level role suited for those starting in human services, with no personal care duties expected of residents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
• Experience or coursework in human services is a plus but not required.
• Spanish language proficiency is a strong plus; other languages valued.

Responsibilities

• Monitor security cameras and building grounds.
• Log residents' comings and goings in the shelter.
• Perform hourly safety walk-throughs of the shelter.
• Answer the 24-hour hotline and calls with supportive, respectful responses.
• Be a welcoming presence for residents and children.
• Follow safety, confidentiality, and emergency procedures and document shift activity.
• Communicate important information to incoming staff and supervisors.
