Job summary

Bay Cove Human Services is seeking a Shelter Support Worker to create a welcoming, safe environment for unhoused individuals. The role emphasizes trauma-informed care and safety across the shelter and requires collaboration with the team and adherence to policies.

Responsibilities include monitoring guests, completing intake and HMIS documentation, managing safety procedures, and providing crisis intervention when needed. This is a non-exempt, on-site position with evening shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months experience in health or human service-related fields preferred, preferably with unhoused individuals.
  • Demonstrated verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Individuals with lived expertise are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for guests and maintain safety through visual monitoring and respectful interactions.
  • Conduct scheduled safety checks of all areas and provide redirection as needed.
  • Facilitate a respectful and safe check-in process.
  • Complete intake documentation and HMIS as required.
  • Follow safety plans and restrictions established by shelter leadership.
  • Communicate safety concerns to supervisor and prepare written incident reports.
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation; contact 911 when needed.
  • Maintain guest confidentiality and participate in required meetings and trainings.
