Job summary

Independence House, Inc. seeks a Part-Time Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate to support survivors in the Barnstable County shelter.

The role provides crisis intervention, intake assessments, safety planning, case management, and direct advocacy for adults and children, with collaboration across shelter teams. The Advocate participates in group activities, coordinates with partners, and maintains records, while covering days, evenings, weekends, overnights, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• 3+ years of experience with case management and/or working with survivors of violence.
• Knowledge of trauma manifestations and domestic violence, social justice focus.
• Commitment to non-violence and non-coercive parenting approaches.
• Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends; flexible scheduling.
• Familiarity with community resources across MA.

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention, intakes, advocacy and safety planning.
• Coordinate with shelter teams to support parents and children at the shelter.
• Conduct case management, referrals, and community resource connections.
• Lead or support group activities and parenting education.
• Maintain client records, completes paperwork within shift timelines.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in supervision and team meetings.
• Ensure confidentiality and comply with IH policies.
