Job summary

Safe Harbor's Shelter Advocate provides trauma-informed, survivor-centered advocacy and resource coordination for survivors in the shelter program. The role focuses on safety planning, navigating services, and empowering independence, working with survivors, families, and partners to create a respectful, supportive environment.

The position is full-time, hourly, nonexempt and eligible for full benefits, reporting to the Shelter Advocacy Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, psychology, or a related field preferred; an associate degree or relevant experience will be considered.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

• Complete initial intake and assess program appropriateness and safety concerns.
• Develop, monitor, and update individualized safety plans for survivors.
• Provide trauma-informed advocacy, crisis intervention, referrals, and ongoing support.
• Assist survivors in accessing housing, employment, healthcare, legal services, transportation, financial aid, childcare, education, and other basic needs.
• Support survivors with children by connecting families to parenting, childcare, education, and school enrollment.
