Job summary

Joyous Ventures is seeking a compassionate Monitor to join our mission-driven team. You’ll provide direct support to residents while ensuring their rights are respected in a safe, secure environment.

This fast-paced, client-facing role requires patience and empathy, with duties including enforcing house rules, responding to emergencies, and supporting trauma-informed care for individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and trauma.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience, preferably in a homeless shelter or related setting.
• Ability to think clearly and act decisively under pressure.
• Commitment to fairness, prevention, and de-escalation.
• Basic computer skills (for incident reporting and camera system navigation).
• Experience in human services strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enforce Joyous Ventures’ rules and regulations consistently.
• Uphold policies around alcohol/drug use, harassment, and participant conduct.
• Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents (e.g., theft, accidents, medical needs).
• Treat all participants with dignity, fairness, and respect.
• De-escalate conflicts with support from the Program Manager and Clinical Social Worker.
• Support conflict prevention and risk-reduction strategies.
• Manage emergency situations, including contacting law enforcement when necessary.
• Participate in trainings on trauma-informed care, racial and gender sensitivity, homelessness, and safeguarding.
• Monitor security cameras to ensure ongoing safety.
