Job summary

NCS seeks a dedicated School Counselor to support the holistic development of scholars in a rigorous K-8 program. The role blends direct counseling with program development, crisis intervention, and data-informed planning to meet diverse learner needs.

You will collaborate with teachers, families, and external providers to ensure every child receives necessary support. Strong emphasis on culturally responsive practices and trauma-informed care is essential.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in School Counseling or related field is required.
• Current NYS School Counselor certification is required.
• 3+ years of experience in a school-based counseling or social-emotional support role.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills are strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting students with disabilities, particularly Autism.
• Familiarity with restorative practices and trauma-informed care.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individual and group counseling to address students' social-emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
• Integrate Social Thinking strategies within counseling services.
• Facilitate support groups on emotional regulation and trauma recovery.
• Design and implement responsive counseling interventions.
• Guide students through personal goal-setting and decision-making processes.
• Provide crisis support during mental health emergencies or disclosures.
• Collaborate with teachers and families to support student success.
• Maintain confidential case records and coordinate services with specialists.
