Job summary

Volunteers of America–Greater New York is seeking an experienced Safety & Security Manager to join the Real Estate Department. This role oversees security operations across 60+ facilities, develops security plans, and leads emergency preparedness efforts to protect clients and staff.

The position emphasizes layered access design, collaboration with NYPD/FDNY, and management of third-party security contracts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 7+ years of direct, full-time experience in public safety or security management.
• Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, or related area is a plus.
• Certifications such as CPP or PSP are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop security plans for all VOA-GNY facilities including SOPs and tech requirements.
• Oversee security operations and emergency preparedness across 60+ facilities.
• Implement layered access with lighting, lobby security, and surveillance systems.
• Negotiate and supervise third-party security contracts.
• Coordinate with NYPD/FDNY and internal/external stakeholders.
• Lead trainings for staff and residents on safety procedures.
• Advise on security technologies with IT (CCTV, access controls).
• Collaborate with Real Estate Development to embed trauma-informed design and security.
